No fewer than 14 persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal boat accident in Gumbi area of Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims, mostly women and a young child, were said to be returning from a wedding ceremony in Ngaski Local Government Area when the boat conveying more than 70 passengers reportedly broke apart shortly after sunset.
Local sources disclosed that the incident threw passengers into the water, leading to the tragic loss of lives.
Rescue teams and community volunteers, however, succeeded in saving other occupants of the boat. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine its cause.
