…This Day Rs Us Of Our Responsibilities To Our Fallen Heroes – Ilaboya
The Executive Chairman of Owan West Local Government Council of Edo State, Hon. Frank Ilaboya, yesterday, joined his counterparts in other LGAs in honouring fallen heroes of war at 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.
The event which took place at the Council Secretariat, witnessed large numbers of Legioners, Religious Leaders from both the Christian & Muslim Communities, Traditional Leaders, Security Chiefs, Party Bigwigs and other key stakeholders in the local government.
Hon. Ilaboya, while saluting the sacrifices of the departed Heroes, described the Armed Forces Remembrance celebration as a day that reminds the people of the expectations and responsibilities to their country and the departed Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for their beloved country.
He urged the people of the local government to embrace and sustain the spirit of patriotism and national identity, saying, “it is our duty to keep the flag flying. I implore you all to join hands with Government to ensure peace and stability in our country and in our communities.
“It needs no emphasis to say that the country is being faced with enormous and daunting security challenges that poses threat to the wellbeing and survival of the nation.
“There is widespread violence in several parts of the country, ranging from Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, herdsmen attacks, ethnic agitation related violence and so on.
” It is the responsibility of government to ensure the security of lives and properties of its people, and this we are committed to.
“I wish to commend the untiring efforts of our amiable Governor, His Excellency Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for ensuring peace and security in the State. It is hoped that when the new Community Police outfit becomes fully operational, the security architecture of the State would have been remarkably improved to ensure adequate security of lives and properties in our dear state.
“At the local government level, we have rejiged our Vigilante Group both in terms of size and capacity to provide the necessary support to other security agencies in tackling all forms of crimes and criminality in the local government.
While launching the 2021 AFRD Emblem, Hon Ilaboya enjoined everyone to donate generously to the Appeal Fund as no amount is too small in supporting the welfare of the dependants left behind by our fallen Heroes as well as those incapacitated during the various wars.
On his part, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in the LGA, Rtd. Col. Trafford Okugbe, lauded the heroic contributions made by living and departed soldiers, towards the realization of peace and security in the nation, adding, “their sacrifices and contributions have led to national stability.
“The Ex-servicemen want to use this medium to thank the Executive Chairman for approving a new office accommodation for us and we are moving into the office without further delay. We deeply appreciate you Mr Chairman for the kind approval as history will be very kind to you.”
He expressed gratitude to the Chairman and all kindhearted individuals who made generous donation towards the AFRD emblem.
