6 Suspected Cultists, Including 2 Teenagers, Nabbed in Ikorodu

Six suspected cult members have been apprehended in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State during two sting operations by police operatives in the area.

The first operation, as contained in a press statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, was the busting by policemen attached to Ikorodu Division, during initiation of one Kolapo Ayeobasan, 20, by Fatai Kalejaiye, 25, on April 19, 2021, at about 7:30pm.

The duo, residents of Ikorodu, were swooped on and apprehended by the joint efforts of police detectives and local vigilante members.

Fatai Kalejaiye, according to the release, lives in House No. 20, Igbelara area, while Kolapo is of 4, Anifowose Street.

In another development, suspected cultists, including two teenagers, were arrested by police operatives attached to the Ipakodo Division.

They are Sunday Mesagan, 16, Demilade Matiminu, 24, Oladimeji Orimoloye,19 and Akinmoye Emmanul, 24 .

“Their arrest was at the heels of a complaint received from one Temidire Ogunbajo (f) of No 4, Abejoye Street, Majidun, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, that some suspected armed cultists invaded her house and attacked her and other residents of the Majidun community, Ikorodu, on 16th April, 2021 at 8.30am.

“The Police, in conjunction with local security operatives in Ikorodu, swung into action and went after them one after another, and within three days, 16th to 18th of April, 2021, they were all picked up from their various hideouts” the police spokesman said.

Adejobi added that, as part of items recovered from them were a chissle, cutlass, broken bottles, charms and some other lethal weapons.

According to him, “The suspects will be taken to the Command’s Special Squad for further investigation on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu. The Commissioner of Police has also ordered that the fleeing members of the gangs be apprehended by all means so as to cause them to face the full wrath of the law”.

The police boss, the statement continued has, “in furtherance of his strategic actions to flush cultists out of Lagos State, confirmed that the officers of the command have been directed to fight crimes and keep the criminals, especially cultists, at bay”.
