The Chairman of Etsako West Local Government council, Hon. Marvelous Zibiri has issued a stern warning to residents of the community who go about vandalising campaign billboards, posters and other electoral materials in the area describing the act as barbaric.
In a statement issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Iyamah Nurudeen, a copy of which was made available to Uptown Press on Thursday, the Council honcho noted:
“In a resolute statement released today, Hon. Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri, the Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council, has strongly condemned the vandalism of campaign billboards and posters across the local government area.
“Highlighting the gravity of such actions, Hon. Marvelous emphasized that defacing campaign materials constitutes a criminal offence under both the criminal and penal codes and the Electoral Act (2022). He urged all aspirants, political parties, and their supporters to adhere to the principles of fair play and respect for the democratic process.
“He added that “the leadership of Etsako West Local Government Council frowns upon this act as it is barbaric and an act of poor sportsmanship.”
“The Executive Chairman expressed concern over the challenges in apprehending perpetrators, often operating during unconventional hours. He warned that individuals, groups, or parties found guilty of such acts would face the wrath of the law.
“In the interest of fostering a healthy political environment, Hon. Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri called upon aspirants to exert influence over their supporters, promoting politics of decorum as enshrined in the Electoral Act.”
