Nigeria’s premiere private university, Igbinedion University, has graduated 15,000 students since its establishment in 1999.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Lawrence Ikechuckwu Ezemonye disclosed this on Thursday in Okada, Edo State during a press conference heralding the 25th anniversary of the Institution.
Professor Ezemonye, also announced that former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan would be chairing the event, which would also be attended by other distinguished guests, including former and current world presidents.
The event is set to be a grand celebration of the achievements of the university since its inception.
Over the years, the university has made significant strides in teaching, research, capacity building, and innovative studies. It has produced exceptional graduates in diverse fields of human endeavour who are contributing their quota to national and global development.
Several activities have been lined up for the event, including a colloquium, the presentation of a compendium titled “Re-imagining Tertiary Education for Africa’s Present and Future Realities”, commissioning of legacy projects, special exhibitions, an anniversary luncheon, and an evening of grand performance by a collection of artistes.
The celebration will span several days, beginning on May 26th with a Free Medical Outreach (CSR) to Okada neighbouring communities, World Press Conference, and unveiling of the University’s 25th anniversary logo the following day.
On Friday, May 3rd, 2024, there will be a Special Juma’at prayer.
The celebration will continue on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, with an Alumni Reunion and Engagement and Commissioning of Legacy Projects.
On Friday, May 10th, 2024, there will be the launching of the 25th-anniversary compendium, the 25th-anniversary colloquium, anniversary luncheon, and an evening of grand performance by selected artistes.
The event will culminate with a Special thanksgiving service on May 12th, 2024. The anniversary celebration promises to be an exciting and memorable event, as the university marks a significant milestone in its history.
