On Thursday evening, armed robbers launched a violent attack on a bank in the Abaji Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulting in the death of a police officer and the shooting of a bank security guard.
The incident unfolded around 6 pm when the robbers arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on a nearby police station. After killing the police officer, the assailants stormed the bank premises, continuing to shoot indiscriminately.
A security guard was shot while attempting to escape. The robbers tried to access the bank’s strong room but were unsuccessful.
In response, police mobilized forces, joined by soldiers and local vigilantes, leading to a shootout that resulted in the deaths of two robbers. Angry residents captured one of the robbers and set him on fire, as reported by an eyewitness.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident and has deployed operatives from the anti-robbery squad, along with local security personnel, to track down the remaining robbers.
