Three people are feared dead following a series of violent attacks in Ondo Town on Tuesday. The incidents, which occurred at Ife Garage and near Tipper Garage in Sabo, have caused pandemonium throughout the community and heightened fears of worsening insecurity linked to the local drug trade.
Among the deceased are Man U, a known member of the Buccaneer cult; Amos, a non-cultist and promising young artist; and AY, believed to be affiliated with the Eiye cult. Two other individuals — Eko and Believe, both confirmed to be non-cultists — were also caught in the attacks. Contrary to initial reports suggesting they had died, they are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Community sources confirmed that AY was killed near Tipper Garage in Sabo, while Man U was fatally shot after being pursued by armed assailants at Ife Garage.
Despite the involvement of cultists, authorities and residents alike have clarified that this was not a cult clash, but rather a drug-related confrontation between rival drug factions. The attackers have been identified as members of the KK cult group, allegedly acting under orders from a powerful drug cartel embroiled in a territorial dispute.
Naija Confra reports that, the violence is said to be part of an ongoing feud between two major drug lords. One is Baba Roteh, a feared KK cultist who, alongside his mother “Mama,” reportedly controls operations in the Ayeyemi area. The rival figure is a woman known as “Mummy,” who is believed to run the drug network based at Ife Garage.
According to residents, tensions between the two camps have been simmering for months, but Tuesday’s killings marked a dramatic escalation. “We never imagined something like this could happen at Ife Garage,” one local said, expressing disbelief and fear over the brazen nature of the attack.
Investigations suggest that the main target was Man U, who worked under Mummy’s drug syndicate. He was chased and shot dead by the assailants, sparking speculation that the other victims — including Amos and AY — were either collateral casualties or deliberately targeted to destabilise Mummy’s operations and render Ife Garage unattractive for business.
Amos, one of the non-cultist victims, has drawn particular attention and sympathy. Described by friends and family as a bright star, he was an up-and-coming artist known for his humility and resilience. He had recently returned from Lagos and was reportedly out shopping with his brother when the attack occurred.
“Amos had refused to join any cult, despite repeated pressure in Lagos,” said a close friend. “He had a future — he just came back on Monday. Now he’s gone.”
While some believe Amos was mistaken for a target during the attack on Man U, others insist he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Ondo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement, but sources say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to restore calm in the affected areas.
Residents urged security agencies to increase patrols and intelligence gathering in hotspots like Ife Garage and Sabo to prevent further bloodshed.
