The Edo State Police Command has issued a stern warning against any planned celebrations of the 7/7 cultists’ Founder’s Day, traditionally observed by the Neo Black Movement (NBM), popularly known as Aye. The annual event, held on 7 July, has in previous years been linked with violent clashes and criminal activities.
In a proactive response to intelligence suggesting that some cult groups intend to cause mayhem during this year’s commemoration, the Police Command announced it has deployed officers across the State to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Moses Joel Yamu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika.
The Commissioner warned parents, guardians, hoteliers, bar and lounge operators, and owners of other public spaces not to permit any unlawful gatherings within their premises, stressing that anyone found harbouring or enabling cult-related activities will face the full weight of the law.
CP Agbonika urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or gathering in their neighbourhoods. He also encouraged residents to make use of the Police emergency lines: 08077773721 or 08037646272.
The Command reassured citizens of its readiness to ensure peace and security, particularly during this sensitive period, and urged all to go about their lawful activities without fear.
