On Friday, October 20th, 2023 at approximately 3pm, a gang of armed robbers suspected to have been carrying out a series of bank heists invaded Otukpo, a town located in Benue State, reportedly killing an unspecified number of residents.
The gunmen went on a shooting spree, causing panic and chaos in the town, as they targeted several banks. An eyewitness identified as Sunday Abah disclosed that the robbers had been operating for several hours and that there had been no intervention from the security forces.
As a result, the gunmen had taken over the town, and residents were at their mercy.
“Currently, they are robbing Zenith bank, and they have been here for more than three hours,” he said.
The situation remained tense, and the whereabouts of the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene Sewuese, was unknown at the time of filing this report.
