Edo NAWOJ undertake a road walk to tackle gender-based violence

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Edo State Chapter, took the lead in organizing a road walk to mark the International day for the elimination of violence against women. The event, which was part of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence,” was a great example of collective action towards eliminating violence against women and girls.

The theme for this year’s International day, “Unite! Invest to prevent violence Against Women and Girls,” highlights the need for investing resources towards ending gender-based violence. The road walk, led by Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan, was a commendable effort to raise awareness about the issue and promote the need for collective action.
According to Ehimuan:”There was a need to encourage women in the society to get empowered in anything they do to earn a living.
“The girl child should be encouraged to take her academic seriously and avoid unwanted pregnancies which could lead to the detriment of her future”
On his part, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe said that, there is need for government at all levels to provide enabling environment for the development of women and girls.

During the walk, the women displayed placards with various messages such as “Stop Psychological Abuse,” “Change The Story, Create a Safe Future,” and “Push Forward Act to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” These messages were not only impactful but also constructive, conveying the importance of taking action to address the issue.

Overall, the road walk organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Edo State Chapter was a constructive effort towards promoting gender equality and raising awareness about the issue of violence against women and girls. It is hoped that such initiatives will continue to inspire more people to come forward and take action towards creating a safer and more equal world for women and girls.
