Federal High Court in Kano Invalidates Muhammadu Sanusi II’s Reinstatement as Emir of Kano
In a ruling on Thursday, the Federal High Court in Kano invalidated the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. The court also nullified all subsequent actions taken following his controversial reinstatement.
Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, the presiding judge, declared, “I hereby declare all steps taken by the Government null and void, including the assent to the Law and the reappointment of Sanusi, while maintaining the validity of the repealed Emirates Law.”
He emphasized the respondents’ awareness of the court’s order to maintain the status quo pending further court proceedings, stating that disregarding such orders is a serious matter. The judge noted that adherence to due process could have prevented the situation from escalating, but the respondents chose to act against the court’s directives, leading to a significant legal predicament.
