Benin City– A young man, suspected of being a vandal, met a tragic end opposite the High Court Building Complex on Sapele Road in Benin City.
The incident occurred beside Heritage Bank, where the man was electrocuted inside a fenced transformer area.
The exact circumstances leading to the electrocution are still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest that the individual was attempting to tamper with the transformer when he was fatally shocked.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the man inside the fenced area moments before the incident.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but it was too late to save the individual. Authorities have cordoned off the area and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motives behind the attempted vandalism and to identify the deceased.
This tragic event has raised concerns about the safety and security of public utilities in the area. Local residents have expressed their worries over the increasing incidents of vandalism, which not only disrupt services but also pose significant risks to those involved.
“We need to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future,” a local resident told Uptown Press. “The authorities must take stringent measures to safeguard our infrastructure and protect lives.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the deceased to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
