The Edo State Police Command has issued a stern warning that individuals summoned in connection with the recent killing of a police officer must present themselves for questioning or face being declared wanted.
This declaration follows the tragic incident involving a police inspector assigned to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Edo.
The officer was fatally shot last Thursday in Benin City, sparking a thorough investigation by local law enforcement. During a press briefing on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye disclosed that invitations had been extended to several persons of interest in the case. However, he expressed frustration over their failure to respond.
“We have sent out invitations to those we need to question regarding this matter,” Adegboye stated. “If they do not comply and show up, we will have no choice but to declare them wanted.”
Commissioner Adegboye also took the opportunity to affirm the police command’s respect for Mr. Okpebholo. He addressed and apologized for the inappropriate manner in which the APC governorship candidate was referred to during the initial press briefing after the shooting.
As the investigation continues, the police command remains vigilant in its efforts to bring those responsible for the officer’s death to justice.
The public and concerned parties are urged to cooperate fully with the ongoing inquiries to ensure a swift resolution to this grievous incident.
