The Edo State Government has raised alarm over alleged plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to foment civil unrest and cause chaos in the State.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, accused the APC of intending to orchestrate civil unrest under the guise of protests and rallies to advance their political agenda.
Nehikhare claimed that the APC’s plan stems from their realization of the inadequacy of their gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo, who has been described as unlettered and incompetent.
He alleged that the APC is resorting to inciting civil unrest in a desperate attempt to divert attention from their candidate’s weaknesses and avoid meaningful engagement with the electorate.
The Edo State Government has called upon all security agencies in the State to take notice of the alleged planned heinous acts by the APC and assured the public that every effort within the ambits of the law would be made to prevent any mayhem and ensure that those found culpable are brought to justice.
The government urged the APC to desist from divisive tactics and resort to violence, emphasizing the importance of civilized debates and engagements with the electorates. They called for restraint on the part of the APC and urged them to allow their candidate to engage with the people directly to enable informed decisions ahead of the September 21 governorship election.
