Niger Police arrest suspected gunrunners, recover 15 pump action

Police in Niger State have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal arms trafficking as they recovered 15 pump action rifles from suspected gunrunners in Minna.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, revealed this in a press briefing at the police headquarters in Dutsen-Kura Minna on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

The recovery of the firearms came after police operatives intercepted a vehicle with three occupants along Maikunkele-Tegina road in Minna. According to the CP, the suspects managed to escape during interrogation.
The vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla, was discovered to contain 15 automatic pump action rifles and thirty cartridges concealed in a sack.

Efforts are underway to track down the owner of the vehicle and apprehend the fleeing suspects as the police intensify their investigative efforts to uncover the source and purpose of the seized firearms.
The case is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna. This significant recovery represents a major step forward in tackling illegal arms trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of the region.
