Nigerian actress Halima Abubakar has issued a public apology to Apostle Johnson Suleman, acknowledging that she made false allegations against him.
The apology comes after a six-month-long legal battle, during which a Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered Abubakar to pay ₦10 million in damages for defamation.
In a heartfelt letter, Abubakar expressed deep regret for her actions, stating that she now understands the immense pain and distress her accusations caused the cleric, his family, and his ministry.
The actress had previously taken to social media to accuse Suleman of immoral behavior, including claims of being diabolical and a womanizer. These allegations, which were widely circulated, impacted both Suleman’s reputation and the standing of his church, Omega Fire Ministry.
Reflecting on the situation, Abubakar admitted her guilt, writing: “I am writing to you today to acknowledge the falsehoods I made against you on social media and to offer my sincerest apologies… I admit that I made false allegations against you and also regret my actions.”
Her apology signals an end to a contentious chapter, during which Suleman consistently denied the claims. In her letter, Abubakar not only sought forgiveness from Suleman but also from his wife and the leaders of his church, recognizing that her apology may not fully repair the damage done.
She concluded the letter by asking for Suleman’s forgiveness, emphasising that she was not in the right frame of mind when she made the accusations. The actress further praised the cleric’s humanitarian efforts and expressed hope that he would extend forgiveness to her.
However, in a statement on his verified Social media handle on Wednesday, the Clergyman made his position known on the matter. He wrote:
