Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the promotion of 8,476 primary and junior secondary school teachers across the State, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of the local education sector.
In a statement released on Friday, Mrs. Onomen Goodness Briggs, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo-SUBEB), confirmed the approval, stating that the promotion letters would be distributed across the state’s 18 local government areas. She emphasised that the move is part of the ongoing effort to recognise and reward the hard work of educators in the region.
The promotions, which span from 2022 to January 2024, are seen as a crucial step in revitalising the teaching profession, especially after a period of stagnation in career progression for many teachers. Mrs. Briggs acknowledged the impact of Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, praising his proactive stance in addressing key issues in education.
“Governor Okpebholo’s decisive action has brought renewed energy to the education sector. His commitment to improving the welfare of teachers reflects his broader vision for educational reform in the state,” she said.
This initiative is expected to boost the morale of the teaching community, which has faced significant challenges in recent years.
