A year after the untimely passing of Dr Herbert Wigwe, former Group CEO of Access Holdings Plc, a bitter legal dispute has erupted over his vast estate, pitting family members against his children. The ongoing saga has seen Herbert’s 90-year-old father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, dragging his granddaughter, Otutochi Channel Wigwe, to court in a highly contentious case concerning inheritance rights.
The dispute intensified after reports surfaced last October suggesting that Pastor Wigwe’s family was attempting to challenge the validity of Herbert’s will, potentially excluding his children from their rightful inheritance. While the family initially denied these claims, the situation escalated when a legal challenge was filed by Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, a cousin representing Pastor Shyngle, questioning the authenticity of the late banker’s will.
In response, the family issued a public retraction, stating, “We have withdrawn the suit. Our primary concern was the welfare of the children.” However, newly uncovered court documents have revealed that the case was never withdrawn as previously claimed. In fact, Otutochi Channel Wigwe, along with Uche Wigwe and prominent businessman Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, have now been named in a lawsuit that continues to unfold in the courts.
As the dispute drags on, tensions within the Wigwe family have mounted, leaving the public to watch closely as the legal battle over Herbert Wigwe’s multibillion-naira estate plays out in the courtroom.
