The Edo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its intensified crackdown on illegal arms and criminal activities across the State. Acting on credible intelligence, the Command successfully recovered a cache of firearms and arrested one suspect in a late-night operation.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the operation was carried out under the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, whose commitment to eradicating crime has continued to yield results.
According to the statement, the raid was executed by operatives of the Command’s X-Squad in the early hours of 10 April 2025 at approximately 1:30am. The officers stormed a premises located within the Iguezemwahu community along the Benin-Auchi Road, where they made the discovery.
Items recovered during the operation include: Two (2) single-barrel guns, three (3) pistols, seven (7) live cartridges, one dagger, one trigger part, one Beretta magazine
All the weapons and ammunition were reportedly hidden inside the seat of a motorcycle, indicating a sophisticated attempt to conceal the illegal items.
The suspect arrested at the scene has been identified as 32-year-old Janet Dominic, in whose possession the weapons were found. However, another individual, identified only as “Dominic” with an unknown surname, managed to flee the premises upon sighting the police officers.
The statement further confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover the full extent of the illegal arms operation.
