Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has paid tribute to workers across the State as part of this year’s May Day celebrations, commending their resilience and vital role in the state’s ongoing development.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo extended heartfelt greetings to workers in Edo and beyond, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to building a stronger society.
Describing workers as the “backbone of the State’s progress,” the governor praised the contributions of civil servants, healthcare professionals, educators, artisans, and entrepreneurs who continue to drive growth and innovation across all sectors.
“Your dedication not only sustains the economy but also shapes the fabric of our communities,” the governor stated, while highlighting the significant impact of the workforce in advancing the state’s development agenda.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting workers’ welfare through key initiatives, including the improvement of working conditions, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, workforce training, and the maintenance of industrial harmony.
“This May Day serves as both a celebration and a reminder of our responsibility to those who keep our state moving forward. We will continue to prioritise your needs and address your concerns with sincerity and action,” he affirmed.
He also praised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their continued advocacy for workers’ rights and social justice.
