The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) became a beacon of hope yesterday as two patients, Enuma Juliet and Ojeikere Raphael, received much-needed assistance through the proceeds of the Area 3 Charity Ball, held on April 26, 2025. The event showcased the true essence of community spirit and generosity, illustrating how collective efforts can make a profound difference in the lives of those in need.
Enuma Juliet, who underwent a Brain MRI Scan and Contrast Angiography yesterday at Lily Hospital, GRA, Benin City, expressed immense relief as the financial burden of these crucial diagnostic tests was covered entirely by the charity ball proceeds. The MRI scan aims to identify any potential brain-related issues, while the angiography will provide vital insights into the vascular health of her brain. Additionally, her hospital bill for admission to Neuro Ward 1 was settled, allowing her to continue her treatment without interruption. In a touching gesture, she also received a cash gift to support her ongoing care.
Tears of joy flowed from Enuma’s sister, Mercy Juliet, as she expressed her gratitude. “We’re so grateful for your kindness,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion. “Thank you, National Association of Seadogs, Area 3, for your generosity.” The association has pledged to maintain contact with Enuma, providing ongoing support and ensuring she receives the best care possible during her recovery.
In a separate, yet similarly uplifting situation, Ojeikere Raphael was discharged from the hospital after benefiting from the funds raised at the charity ball. His family members were visibly moved as they prepared to leave, with his father stating, “We’re overwhelmed with gratitude. This act of kindness has brought us immense relief and allowed us to focus on our loved one’s recovery.”
Dirisu Odion, Area Mate of Area 3 for the National Association of Seadogs, commented on the significance of the initiative, stating, “This initiative embodies the spirit of community and compassion that defines who we are. We’re thrilled to support those in need and look forward to continued collaboration with UBTH and other health institutions.”
Ehikioya Uduebor, Capoon of Arabella Deck, echoed similar sentiments, remarking, “Our contribution to the charity ball was a small gesture, but the impact is immense. We’re honoured to be part of this noble cause.”
Lateef Owen Osunde, Capoon of San Titanic Deck, added, “The success of this charity ball demonstrates the power of collective efforts. We’re proud to support our community members in need.”
The heartfelt gratitude from the beneficiaries and their families underscores the significant impact of the Area 3 Charity Ball. This act of selflessness has not only provided immediate relief but has also instilled hope in the hearts of Enuma Juliet and Ojeikere Raphael as they continue their paths to recovery.
With the generosity of the donors and organisers, the legacy of the Area 3 Charity Ball will resonate well beyond these two patients. Enuma and Ojeikere carry with them a renewed sense of optimism, knowing that compassion and community support can transform lives in times of need.
