In an effort to forestall further unrest and foster peace, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, alongside the Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade, on Friday led a high-level operational assessment visit to the restive Ahor and Uselu communities, which have been embroiled in a boundary dispute.
The visit follows rising tensions between the two neighbouring communities and forms part of a wider peace-building initiative by the State security apparatus to prevent violence and maintain public order.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the joint visit was a proactive step to de-escalate hostilities, reinforce security presence, and engage local stakeholders in dialogue.
During the mission, CP Agbonika and his military counterpart met with traditional rulers, youth representatives, and community leaders from both sides, urging restraint and a collective commitment to peaceful coexistence.
“The Commissioner of Police and the Army Commander emphasised that the security agencies are neutral, and fully committed to safeguarding all citizens,” the statement read. “Residents were urged to refrain from any provocative actions and to await official government resolutions on the boundary matter.”
The Police Command further assured the public of continuous surveillance and reinforced deployments in the disputed area, warning that any individual or group found inciting violence or disturbing public peace would face the full wrath of the law.
The command called on all residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing peace efforts aimed at ensuring lasting stability across Edo State.
