Edo State University, Iyamho, has dismissed viral claims of a kidnapping on its campus, describing the reports as false, misleading and completely unfounded, following a wave of panic triggered by unverified social media posts.
In a statement, the university said it had thoroughly investigated the allegations and found no evidence of any abduction within the campus or surrounding communities, insisting that academic and social activities are continuing normally.
The institution stressed that its security architecture remains fully intact, supported by round-the-clock surveillance, trained security personnel and active collaboration with law enforcement agencies and local vigilante groups. According to the management, there has been no breach of security and no reported incident matching the claims circulating online.
University authorities condemned what they described as deliberate misinformation aimed at causing fear, disrupting academic activities and damaging the school’s reputation.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Kelly Quincy Amaechi, urged parents, students and the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information and to stop sharing unverified content.
The management reiterated that the alleged kidnapping story is entirely unfounded and that the campus remains safe, peaceful and fully secure, despite attempts to stir public panic.
