Suspected gunmen have abducted two brothers in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, and are demanding a ₦200 million ransom for their release, sources confirm.
The victims identified as Abu Ibrahim Babatunde and his brother, Abu Tahir were reportedly seized at gunpoint near their home along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, in the early evening hours while returning from work.
According to the Edo State Police Command, the abductors whisked the siblings into a nearby bush after emerging from hiding, prompting alarm among residents and prompting a distress call to security authorities.
Family sources said the kidnappers have since contacted the relatives of the victims, insisting on a ₦200 million ransom a demand that has deepened anxiety within the community and sparked urgent discussions on how to secure the brothers’ safe release.
The police have confirmed receiving reports of the abduction and said investigations are ongoing. Security operatives are reportedly combing surrounding areas in an effort to locate the gunmen and rescue the victims unharmed.
Kidnapping for ransom has remained a persistent security challenge across parts of Nigeria, with criminal gangs increasingly targeting commuters, professionals, and families for large sums.
