In a move hailed as a significant step towards strengthening grassroots policing in Edo State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has commissioned a newly constructed police barracks at the Jattu Divisional Police Headquarters in Etsako West Local Government Area.
The barracks, located in Jattu-Ikpe, Uzairue, was officially inaugurated on behalf of the police commissioner by the Area Commander of Auchi, ACP Ajidahun Lawrence Alaba. The project is aimed at improving the welfare and operational efficiency of officers serving in the division.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a wide array of dignitaries, including senior security officials, community leaders and prominent personalities, who gathered to celebrate what was widely described as a practical intervention in frontline policing.
The event was chaired by a former member of the Police Service Commission, Austine Braimah, and was graced by notable guests such as former Green Eagles star and coach, Kadiri Ikhana. Traditional institutions were also well represented, with the Ogieneni of Uzairue Kingdom, HRH Alhaji Kadiri Imonikhe Omogbai, represented by the Daudu 1 of Uzairue, Alhaji Abdulrahman Momodu JP.
Speaking on behalf of the monarch, the Daudu 1 commended the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Otoagua Joseph, for what he described as visionary leadership and a strong commitment to the welfare of officers. He said the initiative demonstrated how foresight and dedication could translate into tangible development, setting a standard for effective leadership and public service.
In his remarks, CP Agbonika praised the DPO for initiating and delivering the project, urging other Divisional Police Officers across the state to emulate his example. He stressed that improved accommodation was critical to boosting morale, discipline and performance among police personnel.
The commissioner also charged officers who would be accommodated in the new barracks to maintain and make responsible use of the facility, noting that well-planned infrastructure plays a vital role in enhancing security delivery, operational efficiency and overall welfare within the police force.
