The Anambra State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market, Nkwo Nnewi, over non-compliance with the directive ending Monday sit-at-home in the state.
The market was shut from midnight on Monday, February 23, 2026, and will remain closed until Monday, March 2, 2026.
Authorities said the action followed the failure of traders to comply with the directive of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who had earlier ordered a return to normal economic activities on Mondays.
The enforcement team, led by the Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, alongside Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, Special Adviser on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd), and Nnewi Mayor, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, announced the closure on behalf of the government.
Officials warned that traders and customers should stay away from the market during the period to avoid clashes with law enforcement agents.
They also cautioned that the market could face further sanctions if compliance remains low after reopening next week.
The State government noted that normal business activities have largely resumed across Anambra on Mondays since the governor’s directive in January 2026, stressing that defaulters will continue to face strict measures.
