The agrarian community of Isua Akoko in Akoko South East Local Government Area has been plunged into deep mourning following the abduction and killing of a popular youth, Ojo Abbey, widely known by his nickname, “Obesere.”
Abbey, a well-known figure in the community, was reportedly abducted by unknown assailants in the area, sparking anxiety among residents and frantic efforts by family members and sympathisers to secure his release. His sudden disappearance had triggered widespread concern, as locals held out hope for his safe return.
Tragically, those hopes were dashed when his lifeless body was discovered in a forest in neighbouring Edo State. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, further heightening tension and sorrow within the community.
Residents of Isua Akoko described Abbey as a vibrant and hardworking young man whose presence was deeply felt among his peers. His death has left friends, relatives and community members devastated, with many expressing shock over the brutal turn of events.
Community leaders have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible and to strengthen surveillance across vulnerable areas. They also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as investigations continue.
The incident has renewed concerns about security in parts of Ondo State and its surrounding regions, where cases of kidnapping have unsettled rural communities in recent times.
As preparations begin for Abbey’s burial, a sombre mood hangs over Isua Akoko, with many residents hoping that justice will be served and that measures will be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
