The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Edo State Police Command have intensified efforts to strengthen collaboration ahead of the 2027 General Election, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to peaceful, free and credible polls in the State.
The renewed partnership was underscored on Wednesday when a delegation from INEC’s Edo State office, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hon. Obo Effanga, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika.
Speaking during the visit, Effanga said the engagement was aimed at reinforcing the long-standing relationship between INEC and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the areas of election security, voter confidence and the promotion of transparent electoral processes.
He noted that the commission was committed to working closely with security agencies to ensure successful electoral exercises across Edo State, stressing that stronger cooperation would help guarantee peaceful elections and boost public trust in the democratic process.
Responding, CP Agbonika commended INEC for its dedication to strengthening democratic governance through credible elections, describing inter-agency collaboration as a critical pillar for protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
The police chief assured the electoral body of the command’s readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after elections, pledging that officers and personnel would remain professional, neutral and law-abiding in the discharge of their electoral duties.
Agbonika further reiterated the command’s determination to maintain public confidence in democratic institutions by ensuring a safe and conducive environment for voters and election officials.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about deeper cooperation as preparations gradually gather momentum towards the 2027 General Election.
