Tension reportedly boiled over at the Delta Central APC stakeholders’ meeting in Effurun, Delta State, as violence erupted during the gathering, leaving Mr. Tempo Mudi, a protocol aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, reportedly injured.
The incident occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre, where stakeholders had converged for the meeting. Witnesses claimed that trouble started after remarks in support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration sparked heated exchanges among attendees.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, with chairs and other objects allegedly thrown across the venue, forcing participants to scamper for safety as the meeting descended into chaos.
Mr. Mudi was said to have sustained injuries during the fracas, although the full extent of his condition was not immediately disclosed.
However, the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denied reports that the meeting turned violent.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC demanded a retraction of a newspaper report titled “Violence Rocks Delta APC Leaders’ Meeting,” describing the publication as false and misleading.
According to the party, the stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, was peaceful and concluded successfully without any disruption, insisting that reports of violence did not reflect what transpired at the event.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the alleged incident, leaving the conflicting accounts yet to be independently verified.
