Charly Boy Defends Daughter After Engagement to Female Partner, Says ‘I No Get Remote Control for Another Adult’s Life’

Veteran Nigerian entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has defended his daughter following criticism over her engagement to a female partner, insisting that she is old enough to make her own decisions.

Charly Boy, in a post shared online, responded to netizens questioning his daughter’s choice, stressing that the 50-year-old woman has lived long enough to understand herself and determine how she wants to live.

“How you wan tell 50-year-old woman how to live her life? At that age, she don already live enough life to know herself,” he wrote.

The outspoken entertainer said that while he could advise his daughter and express his opinion as a father, he had no right to dictate the choices of another adult.

According to him, his daughter has five children and a great-grandchild, further underscoring her maturity and independence.

Charly Boy also disclosed that his daughter had previously been married, a period he described as one in which she “see pepper,” before subsequently entering another relationship.

He maintained that regardless of the choices she makes, she would always remain his daughter.

“I no fit choose her happiness for her. My own father couldn’t stop me from becoming Charlyboy, the man I wanted to become. So who am I to stand in front of my daughter and try to control the life she has chosen for herself?” he asked.

The veteran entertainer further argued that parents should recognise the limits of their authority when their children become adults, saying personal happiness cannot be imposed on another person.

He concluded by calling for tolerance and allowing individuals to live according to their convictions.

“At the end of the day, na love remain. Make everybody live their truth and find their own happiness,” Charly Boy added.
