The Alternative Bank has strengthened its drive to deepen financial inclusion at the grassroots with the opening of a new branch in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
The development marks another step in the bank’s efforts to take financial services closer to individuals, businesses and players across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The opening ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), led by its Executive Director, Technical, Mrs. Simisola Ojumu.
NIRSAL, while commending the expansion, highlighted the growing role of non-interest financial institutions in widening access to capital, particularly within Nigeria’s agricultural economy.
According to the agency, the increasing physical presence of institutions such as The Alternative Bank provides opportunities to bring appropriate financial solutions closer to participants across agricultural value chains.
NIRSAL noted that the expansion of Nigeria’s financial ecosystem could help deepen engagement among stakeholders, facilitate risk-sharing and ultimately mobilise more financing for agriculture.
The agency stressed that greater access to suitable financial products remains critical to unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s agricultural sector, particularly for businesses and operators who require accessible and sustainable financing.
The Gwarinpa branch therefore represents more than an additional banking outlet, as it positions The Alternative Bank closer to a wider pool of customers and economic actors in Abuja.
With financial inclusion remaining a key component of Nigeria’s economic development agenda, the expansion of non-interest banking institutions is expected to provide customers with additional options for accessing financial services while supporting productive economic activities.
NIRSAL’s participation underscores the importance of collaboration between financial institutions and agricultural stakeholders in expanding the flow of capital to Nigeria’s real economy.
