Residents of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State have taken to the streets to protest what they described as prolonged neglect by the government despite giving their mandate and support.
The protesters accused the government of failing to address pressing needs in the community, while public resources were allegedly being channelled into projects outside the area.
Carrying placards and voicing their grievances, the residents said they had expected tangible development in return for the political support they gave the government.
“We gave you a mandate and you neglected the people that gave you the mandate,” one of the protesters said.
The residents lamented what they described as a disconnect between government priorities and the needs of the people, insisting that their community deserves greater attention and development.
They called on the government to urgently address infrastructure and other basic needs in Orhionmwon, stressing that the welfare and development of residents should remain a priority.
The protesters further urged the authorities to listen to their concerns and take concrete steps to improve living conditions in the area.
The demonstration comes amid growing calls by residents for governments at all levels to ensure that public resources are deployed equitably and that communities receive tangible benefits from the mandates they give elected officials.
