US President Donald Trump has sparked reactions after publicly praising rapper Nicki Minaj’s backside during a rally in Port Huron, Michigan.
Trump made the eyebrow-raising remark on Sunday, October 25, while addressing supporters at McMorran Place Arena, where Minaj joined him after travelling aboard Air Force One.
Turning his attention to the rapper, Trump said: “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before — Nicki Minaj. That’s hard to miss.”
He then asked Minaj to stand up as the crowd erupted in cheers, adding that he hoped she was not offended by his comment.
“I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki. She’s been with us for a long time,” Trump said.
The president’s remark about Minaj’s backside came as he recounted an earlier encounter with Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio, whose physique had also caught his attention.
Earlier in October, Trump disclosed that he had examined Husted’s build after learning about his background as a college football player.
“I don’t do this with men very often. I started examining his body, because I didn’t know he was a great athlete,” Trump said, describing how he looked at the senator’s body and hands.
“You are a great athlete. Congratulations,” he added.
Trump’s latest comments have placed Minaj’s backside at the centre of attention, adding another unexpected moment to the president’s public appearances.
