A three-year-old boy in Florida has become the centre of controversy after a dispute over his participation in a youth soccer league prompted a police response, following complaints that he was monopolising the ball during matches.

The boy, identified as Nevada, was reportedly playing in an i9 Sports youth soccer league against five-year-olds, despite being two years younger than most of his opponents.

According to his family, the toddler repeatedly outplayed the older children, making it difficult for opponents to dispossess him during matches.

However, some parents allegedly complained that he was hogging the ball and trying to show off rather than allowing other children to participate more fully.

The dispute reportedly escalated when a league official contacted the Winter Park Police Department for assistance.

Nevada’s father, speaking in a video about the incident, said police were called because his three-year-old son had the ball too much during the game.

The family alleged that the league issued them a trespass notice and that officers escorted them away from the field in front of other children and spectators.

According to the family, they later received a refund for their autumn 2026 registration following the incident.

The controversy has sparked debate about sportsmanship, fair play and how adults should handle competition involving young children.

While youth sports are designed to encourage teamwork and give every child an opportunity to participate, the incident has raised questions about how the disagreement was handled and why police intervention became necessary.

However, the Winter Park Police Department has disputed claims that officers forced the family to leave the park or issued a trespass notice.

In a statement, the department said a soccer league official contacted officers to report a “disturbance” between league officials and the player’s parents.

“The Winter Park Police Department was contacted by a soccer league official who requested response to a disturbance between league officials and the parents of a player,” the statement read.

Police explained that the league had asked the family to leave and offered to refund their registration fee. The league official subsequently requested that officers communicate with the parents to prevent the disagreement from escalating.

“The family stated the game was over and they were leaving. The family was cooperative with the officers and were provided with an event number for the incident at their request,” the department added.

The police further clarified that the dispute was civil rather than criminal, insisting that nobody was arrested, issued a trespass notice or forced to leave the park.

“The incident was a civil matter between those parties and not criminal. No one was arrested, trespassed, or forced to leave the park. The Officers body worn cameras confirm the above information,” the statement said.
