A massive gully erosion has dealt a big blow on the residents of Chairman Shuaibu street, up Iyekhie girls/Aveile road just after campus 2 back gate of Auchi polytechnic in Etsako Local Government of Edo State.
A Facebook user, Adams MomoRabiu who shared some pictures of the gully erosion after a torrential rainfall some days ago in the community reported that: “The gully brought down several houses and destroyed properties worth millions of naira in that axis. More houses will still give way if urgent measures are not taken to address the erosion issues.”
According to him, the drainage that connects all water from campus two of the Polytechnic, Izoobo Junction and all other adjourning hills, and neighbourhood is disrupted due to erosion, thus making it a massive flow any time it rains. The construction of Iyekhie Girls/Avaiele road perfected the channelisation of the drinage system to endanger the residents in that affected area.
The people of the community are appealing to relevant authorities, community leaders, Otaru in Council, well meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the residents to avoid further loss of properties and lives.
