What began like an excitement for five suspected internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo-boys, ended up a jeopardy, with the death of one and the subsequent arrest of others by the police.
All the five suspected Yahoo-boys were reported to have been high in spirit, taking a hard drug substance, identified as Colorado, when one of them, 20-year-old Alexander Uzoma, suddenly dropped dead.
Undaunted by the incident, the other four young men, in a manner that suggests lack of respect for the sanctity of human life, borne out of apparent fear of being linked to the death, allegedly connived and dumped his corpse on a fly-over, to leave no trace of where he was tragically struck by death.
Meanwhile, the late Uzoma’s mother became worried that her son, who left home on November 20, 2021, saying he was going on visitation to some of his friends, had to lodge a report of her missing son at the Adigbe Police Station in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
As contained in a press release issued by the Ogun State Police Command Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, “A case of missing person was subsequently incidented at Adigbe Division, but when the whereabout of the victim remained a mystery after some days, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, directed that the case be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation and itntelligence Department for discreet investigation”.
“At the SCIID”, Oyeyemi said, “the DSP-Nurudeen AbdulGafar led Modus Operandi Section, embarked on intelligence and technical investigation, leading to identifying one Babatunde Owoseni as the person last seen with the victim.
The said Babatunde had to be picked up for interrogation, a development that gave insight into the missing Uzoma’s whereabouts.
He was said to have led the detectives to arrest his accomplices, Azeez Oyebanji (aka Biggy); Ayobami Adesina and Balogun Sulaiman, who all relayed how the victim visited them to learn internet fraud, adding that after they all ate, they took a substance known as Colorado, the sedative effect that caused them to fall asleep.
“They confessed further that, they all woke up at about 8 pm, except Uzoma, who was lying down on floor, having vommitted all over his body. When they tried to carry him, they discovered that he was no longer breathing. At that point, Azeez Oyebanji from whom they bought the drug was invited, and he advised that they should throw the corpse away”.
“Ayomide and Gafar then arranged for an Uber. On the arrival of the driver, Uzoma’s lifeless body was taken into it and, with Ayomide behind the wheels, driven to the Kuto overhead bridge and dumped.
“The corpse was later evacuated by the state health workers and buried as unknown corpse”, the PPRO revealed, adding that, “Police preliminary investigation revealed that there was a mark of violence on the victim’s head as shown in the picture taken by the health workers before it was buried”.
At that instance, CP Bankole has ordered the investigating team to expedite action on the investigation and charge the suspects to court as soon as possible.
