A 29-year-old lady has, by divine providence, twice escaped her erstwhile husband’s orchestrated food poisoning.

The evil-minded former husband, 35-year-old Eluyera Wasiu’s third attempt on the lady was to outrightly eliminate her and, to achieve that heinous desire, he commissioned one Adeniyi Samuel to help carry out the hatchet job, for which they agreed on N10,000.

Wasiu, according to a press release issued by the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, he made an initial payment of N5,000 to Samuel, with a promise to balance up on completion of the assignment.

But, for whatever reason, Samuel could not carry out the operation as at December 1, 2022, a breach that angered Wasiu when he came in contact with him on January 1, 2022 and took up fight with him.

The fight was so serious that, according to the release, concerned members of the public had to send a distress call to the DPO, Ogijo Divisional Headquarters, intimating him of “the very serious physical combat at Oponuwa area of Ogijo, and if they were not quickly arrested, it might lead to bloodshed”.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Muhammed Baba, quickly detailed his men to the scene, where the two suspects were promptly arrested”.

Oyeyemi further said: “During interrogation, at least, on the cause of the fight, the commissioned assassin, spilled the beans, saying: “Wasiu contracted him to kill his pregnant wife, (Bola), promising him N10,000 for the job, out of which he had already given him N5,000, to pay the balance on completion of the job”.

Meanwhile, police preliminary investigation revealed that, Wasiu and Bola once lived as husband and wife but separated due to irreconcilable differences, following which Wasiu later got married to another woman, who currently he lives with him.

But somehow, he came in contact with the former wife and, one thing led to another, and they renewed their relationship, the aftermath effect of which Bola became pregnant for him.

In order to keep his relationship with the wife at home, Wasiu insisted that the ex-wife should do away with the pregnancy, a move the Bola vehemently objected to, leading to Wasiu’s decision to eliminate the her.

In his confessional statement to the police, the principal suspect, Wasiu, revealed that he opted for eliminating the lady as the only option left for him, having tried twice to poison her on two occasions to no avail.

He recounted how he, on both occasions, bought fast food from an eatery and laced the food with poison; but the lady, by providence, did not eat the food. It was when all his personal efforts to kill her failed that he contracted Samuel to help him eliminate her. He confessed further that, he personally took Taiwo to the Bola’s house, and gave him her picture for easy identification.

But when he didn’t carry out the assignment as agreed, he demanded for a refund of the advance payment he made to him, and his refusal led to the fight which eventually led to their arrest.

In his reaction to the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered a full scale investigation into the case with a view to arraigning the suspects in court as soon as investigation was concluded.
