A group of not less than fifty (50) House of Representatives members of the National Assembly under the aegis of “Concerned members of the10th Assembly” has appealed to Nigerians, who have taken to the streets in the ongoing End hardship protests, for calm and patience.
Addressing a press conference, the spokesman for the group and member representing the good people of Orhionmwon Uhunmwode federal constituency, Edo State, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuea Osawaru appreciated the leadership of the House of Representatives led by the Honourable Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, PhD for convening the Youth dialogue to douse the tension concerning the scheduled protest.
He commended Nigerians for the way and manner they have conducted themselves thus far and appealed for calm while imploring all Nigerians to bring the protest to an end. The group noted that the hike in fuel prices and associated challenges are fundamental concerns that the House of Representatives has already delved into through its resolutions mandating its joint Committees on midstream and downstream petroleum sectors to investigate the issues in the oil and gas sectors and that, the investigation is presently ongoing.
The concerned members of the 10th Assembly, however, observed that the calls in the media for the removal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Limited (NNPCL) and the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NNDPRA), while the investigation is still ongoing is premature. The group affirmed that as a culture in the parliament, all parties involved in an investigation will be accorded the right to a fair hearing before decisions are reached.
The group of concerned lawmakers appealed to Nigerians to be patient and law-abiding in the expectations of a better Nigeria.
