Abia varsity Suspends Lecturer over alleged “Knacking” of Female Students

Uturu– Abia State University, Uturu, has suspended Dr. Udochukwu Ndukwe, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, for three months following serious allegations of sexual harassment against a female student.
The suspension was announced through a letter signed by the university’s registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu.

The letter outlined that Dr. Ndukwe would be subject to an investigation and would receive only half of his salary during this period, in accordance with the University Conditions of Service. This measure aims to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegations.

The allegations came to light after a video surfaced showing an incident that occurred on Friday, July 5, 2024. In the video, Dr. Ndukwe is seen taking a final year female student from his department to a hotel. The student, who has reportedly been a victim of Dr. Ndukwe’s harassment for two years, claimed that he had been demanding sexual favors from her.

According to reports, Dr. Ndukwe also extorted money from the student but continued to insist on engaging in sexual activities. In a bid to expose and confront him, the student orchestrated a setup which led to Dr. Ndukwe being confronted and physically assaulted by a group of students.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage within the university community and beyond, with calls for a stringent investigation and appropriate actions to be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.

University authorities have assured that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly to uphold justice and maintain the integrity of the institution. The outcome of the investigation will determine further actions regarding Dr. Ndukwe’s position at the university.
