Abuja American school refunds $760,000 to FG

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confirmed the receipt of the refund of $760,000 paid as advanced school fees by a former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for his children at the American International School, Abuja.
Earlier, the American International School of Abuja had asked the EFCC to provide “authentic banking details” for the refund of fees paid for the children of the former governor.
Recall: Yahaya Bello signed a contract with the American International School of Abuja to prepay $845,000 (Over 1 Billion naira withdrawn from Kogi state account) in school fees. However, EFCC asked American International School of Abuja to forward the $845,000 school fees paid by Yahaya Bello. They offered to refund unused £760, 000 of the said amount.
Bello had settled his children’s school fees till graduation; paying their tuition fee from the 2025 session through the 2031 session.
