Controversial claims have surfaced online over the sudden death of Nigerian content creator Odira Nwobu in Benoni, South Africa, with disturbing but unverified accounts spreading rapidly across social media.
The allegations were shared by a social media user, Iwuala Nnamdi Paulcy, believed to be an associate of the deceased, who claimed that Nwobu died in the early hours of the morning at Zurich Lodge, Benoni, following a night out. The account suggested that the circumstances surrounding his death were “very bad” but stopped short of providing verifiable medical or forensic evidence.
Paulcy’s post contained graphic and highly speculative claims about substance use and exhaustion. However, no official cause of death has been released by South African authorities, and the assertions remain unconfirmed.
As of press time, neither the South African police nor the Nigerian High Commission has issued a formal statement, leaving the public reliant on unverified online narratives. Hotel management has also declined comment, citing ongoing investigations.
Colleagues of the late content creator have urged caution over circulating unverified claims, warning that misinformation could further traumatise his family.
Nwobu’s death has been made more poignant by his recent brush with death. Earlier in 2025, he reportedly survived a serious car accident that claimed other lives. He later held a thanksgiving service, publicly expressing gratitude for surviving the crash.
Friends say he appeared to have turned a new leaf after the incident, making the news of his death even more shocking.
