Three young men, engaged by a housewife to kidnap her husband for a ransom, have ran into murky waters and are currently in police custody.

Also arrested is the woman at the center of the wicked act, Memunat Salaudeen.

Memunat, a nurse, Crime Puzzle gathered, had approached the trio of Olayinka Lawal, Asungba Nura and Usman Oluwatoyin, whom she contracted with the hatchet job of kidnapping her husband, basically to force him into parting with some amounts of money.

Her grouse, according to the police, was that her husband acted miserly to her and, desperately desirous of spinning him, she resorted to arranging his abduction.

To achieve her mission, the woman empowered the ‘contractors’ with N8,000, for the purpose of purchasing a cutlass and rope, with which they would tie him to a tree and make their demand for ransom.

To facilitate the operation, Memunat was to lure her husband to a strategic location by the roadside, where the hoodlums would lay siege, eventually seize the man and taken away for the real action.

Having concluded the arrangements, the social miscreants set out on Monday, November 1, 2021, armed themselves with their working tools (a cutlass and a rope) and mounted a motorcycle, only to run into a team of Highway Patrol men on a stop-and-search operation at the Papalanto/Itori Road on the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.

Their motorbike was flagged down for a search at about 6:30pm on the said day, as according the Ogun State Police Command spokesman (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, “Their stern and desperate looks, was highly suspicious, and had to be searched, during which they were questioned as to their destination and what the cutlass and rope, found in their possession, was to be used for”.

Intelligently, the operatives separated them for questioning and faulted their responses on the basis of incoherence, a development that prompted the officer to probe them further.

Realizing how they had wriggled themselves in their individual statements, they felt there was no basis lying, but to say the truth.

At that instance, they owned up to acting Memunat’s script of kidnapping her husband for a ransom.

In a press statement issued by the PPRO, it reads in part that: “In the course of interrogation, the three of them confessed that it was one woman, later identified as Memunat Salaudeen, that gave them the sum of N8,000 to buy a cutlass and a rope, strong enough to tie a human being. They confessed further that, the woman, who is a nurse in their area at Balogun tuntun, Gas Line in Ifo, asked them to go and hide somewhere along that road, and that she will lure her husband to the place where they will kidnap him and tie him with the rope and then ask for ransom.

“The suspects further revealed to the policemen that, Memunat said, that was the only means left for her to get money from her husband, accusing him of being very stingy, despite the fact that he has money.

“The woman was subsequently brought to the scene and, on sighting the suspects, she admitted being the brain behind the whole saga, hinging on her husband’s reluctance to give her money as the cause of her action, which was to spin him”.

The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation”, the command spokesman stated.
