The Aiwerioba Ogiogo Grammar School Old Students Association has brought joy to students of their alma mater in Ugoneki, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. The association donated 50 pairs of school uniforms, 200 customized exercise books and over 200 Oxford sets of mathematical instruments to junior secondary school students whose parents were yet to afford them. Additionally, 29 senior secondary school students received free mathematical instruments.
This kind gesture, motivated by a passion to revive the school’s lost glory, has brought smiles to the faces of students. When the alumni arrived at the school on October 2, 2025, many junior students weren’t wearing uniforms due to a lack of supplies. However, after receiving the donations, their appearance transformed, and they looked like “good-looking students. They all could not hide their joy and appreciation. Two JSS 1 students, Theophilus and Emmanuelle, who spoke to journalists, expressed their gratitude to the alumni for coming to their aid, praying for continued blessings.
The Vice Principal of the school, Ehiosun Andrew, representing the principal, appreciated the generosity on behalf of the students and staff, adding that it’s a great relief to the students and parents. He noted that such an act of donation from a private organization has never happened in the school since the school’s inception. The VP appealed for more donations, specifically chairs and desks, as the current ones are insufficient for comfort and effective learning for the students.
The Vice General Secretary of the alumni association, Mrs. Itohan Ogiogo, stated that the association aims to assist students and restore the school’s former glory. She encouraged others who have benefited from their alma mater to give back to their communities.
Itohan said, “We are here to help the lives of the students, we are using the association to assist the current students because we don’t want the name of this school to die, we also don’t want the school to fold up, we need it to grow from strength to strength and move higher. During our time it was a great school and we want the great name to continue. This kind gesture will enable the students to understand that great men and women have passed through this school and they should behave well to be great men and women in life.
“These actions here today will also make the students understand that there’s life after here. I want to use this opportunity to tell the people out there in the society who have passed through any school and God has blessed you financially, please don’t forget where you are coming from, try and touch the lives currently in the school and let the students know you were once like them.” She stated.
Ogiogo Grammar School was founded in 1980, and this act of kindness has not only provided essential resources but also inspired students to strive for greatness. The alumni association’s efforts demonstrate the power of giving back to one’s community.
