Appointment: Edo State University Taps Experienced Scholar to Lead Library Innovation Drive

Edo State University has appointed Dr Osayande Odaro as its new University Librarian, a move the institution says will strengthen its research capacity and academic resource management.

The appointment, approved by the Governing Council chaired by Professor Olusegun O. Akinyinka, follows a competitive selection process for the key Principal Officer role. In a statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Amaechi Kelly Quincy, the council described Dr Odaro as a “seasoned scholar with a vision to modernise the university’s library services.”

Dr Odaro brings a wealth of expertise to the position, holding degrees in Library Science/Political Science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Ibadan, and a PhD in Information Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

A certified member of the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria and the Nigerian Library Association, Dr Odaro previously served as Deputy College Librarian at Edo State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Benin City.

His five-year single term is expected to focus on digitising collections, expanding research access, and positioning Edo State University’s library as a regional hub for academic excellence.
