Bandits Invade Zanfara Village, Kill Head, 4 Others as Police Rescue One-Yr-Old, 9 Other Kidnapped Victims

It was a black Wednesday for the inhabitants of Gada Village in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zanfara State, where armed bandits invaded the District Head’s residence, Alhaji Umaru, killed him alongside four other villagers.

The bandits, who besieged the community at about 03:35am in their large numbers, also kidnapped some of the villagers, including a year old baby.

Disclosing this sad development at a press briefing, held at the command’s headquarters in Gusau, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, the state Commissioner of Police, Ayuba N. Elkanah said, but for the prompt response to the distress call, the kidnapped victims would have been taken into captivity in the forest.

In the CP’s words: “Police Tactical operatives, in collaboration with Military and vigilante responded promptly and engaged the assailants in a serious gun battle. The joint tactical teams were able to disperse the hoodlums, rescued 10 kidnapped victims, including a one year old baby. Presently, normalcy has been restored in the affected area and its environ with improved confidence building patrol”.

In another development, the command has arrested a 20-year-old notorious bandit, Sani Mati (a.k.a Mai-Yanmata) while mounting a road block with the intent to kidnap innocent commuters at a village called Koliya.

The suspect, according to the CP, was nabbed with his operational AK-47 rifle, double magazines with 3 rounds of live ammunition and one Boxer motorcycle.

He said his arrest at about 0500hrs, same day, was sequel to intelligence gathered by Police Tactical operatives deployed along Zurmi axis, who were on confidence building patrol, adding that the suspect was undergoing discreet investigation, aimed at apprehending other members of his gang, before being charged to court for prosecution.

Sani Mati, who hails from Mayasa Village in Zurmi LGA, was previously of Turji’s camp, “but now operate under a notorious bandits’ kingpin, Kachalla Sani Black, whose areas of operation are Zurmi, Shinkafi and Birnin Magaji axis”, the CP revealed.
