The newly appointed Commissioner for Women and Gender Affairs,(Hon) Barr Bisi Idaomi on Wednesday assumes office with a pledge to uplift the lives of the down trodden and ensure justice for the vulnerable in the State.
Speaking to journalists shortly after addressing the workers of the Ministry, the Commissioner said she was hitting the ground running by addressing the issue of the 12-years-old girl who was recently ganged raped by a group of five men when shae went on an errand for her mother with a view to get justice for her and bring the perpetrators to book in other to stop the abuse of the girl child which incidence has been on the rise in the State.
Continuing, the Commissioner also listed the issues that will immediately engage her attention as that of clearing the State of streets beggars, the one concerning the rural women especially in Akoko Edo local government area and the battered women who are going through hell in their marriages. She also disclosed plans to visit Agenebode in Etsako East local Government to see how the Ministry can put a stop to the age long practice of female genital mutilation
According to the Hon Commissioner, she believed that her posting to the Women Affairs Ministry by the Governor was ordained by God as it has boasted her philanthropy activities which she has been engaged in the past 15yrs and expressed her gratitude to the Governor for the confidence response in her and promised to join the Governor in taking Edo State to the next level.
