The Edo State Sports Commission has suspended Bendel Insurance’s head coach, Greg Ikhenoba, following a string of poor results in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The decision, approved by the Commission’s Chairman, Desmond Amadin Enabulele, comes on the heels of Insurance’s disappointing 1–0 home defeat to Nasarawa United on matchday seven — a result that further deepened the club’s troubled start to the season.
In a statement issued on Monday, 6 October 2025, and made available to newsmen in Benin City, the club’s Media Officer, Kehinde Osagiede, confirmed the development, noting that Ikhenoba’s suspension takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, assistant coach and former player, Baldwin Bazuaye, has been appointed as interim head coach and will lead the team “until further notice.”
Uptown Press reports that, Bendel Insurance, one of Nigeria’s oldest and most historic football clubs, have struggled to find their rhythm this season, leaving fans frustrated after a promising start in previous campaigns.
While the club has not disclosed the duration of Ikhenoba’s suspension, sources within the Edo State Sports Commission hinted that the move was aimed at “reinvigorating the team’s competitive spirit” ahead of their next league fixtures.
