The federal government has pledged a decisive response after a female suicide bomber claimed at least 24 lives and left several others injured in Borno State on Friday night.
The attack, which targeted a crowded food joint in Konduga Local Government Area, is suspected by locals to be the handiwork of Boko Haram or the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking on Saturday, condemned the bombing as a “heinous act of terrorism against innocent civilians” and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“This brutal attack is a grave reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in our nation,” the Vice President said. “The federal government will respond swiftly and decisively to eradicate this menace and to support those affected by this tragedy.”
The explosion has cast a shadow over Borno’s fragile recovery from years of insurgency, prompting renewed concerns about the resurgence of terror attacks in the area.
Authorities have launched an investigation and stepped up security across the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security forces.
