Four students of Auchi polytechnic who are membership of different cult groups have publicly renounced cultism in the institution.
The former cultists renounced their membership of secret cult groups at a renouciation programme organised by the management of the polytechnic in Auchi, Edo, on Wednesday.
Addressing the repentant cult members, the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Umar said amnesty would be provided for those who renounced their membership of cult.
Umar noted that renouncing cultism meant abandoning reckless life style and evil ways, adding that no good thing comes from the devil. state.
“Auchi polytechnic in a bid to establish its zero tolerance for cultism has orgsnise this renunciation programme.
“This renouciation programme is kind of amnesty to enable staff and students who are cultists to renounce membership of such cults.
“After the renouciation programme, any staff or students who involves him or herself in any cult related activities will face appropriate penalties and punishment” Umar said.
The rector said that the existence of cultism and cults in tertiary institutions in Nigeria poses continuous threat to life and peaceful co-existence. state.
“Therefore, the fight against cultism is a collective one, parents are advisec to monitor the activities of their children both in and outside the school.
“Churches and Mosques are not left out in the fight against cultism, they should also establish strong youth departments and programmes where youths can be mentored regularly, ” he said.
He, however, urged other students who do not want to publicly renounce to do so before the management of the polytechnic, saying that amnesty would also be given to them.
Earlier, Evangelist Daniel Osita while giving his testimony as a renounced cultist, praised the students for taking the decision to renounce cultism, noting that by this decision, they have opened positive doors to their futures.
He warned the others to be mindful of the decision they make in life, pointing out that choices made by humans in life either makes or mar his or her future.state.
