Edo State Police Force proves their mettle with another daring rescue, as criminal activities face mounting resistance.
The Edo State Police Command has rescued two women from the clutches of kidnappers, continuing its relentless fight against crime. The dramatic rescue unfolded on the evening of 18th April 2025, when officers successfully freed the victims after they were held hostage for days by a notorious gang.
The horrifying chain of events began on 14th April, when a woman and her sister were abducted in the Oluoke community. The attack turned deadly when the woman’s husband was shot in cold blood by the kidnappers. Despite his injuries, the man was rushed to hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his wounds.
Acting swiftly on the case, the Police Divisional Headquarters in Iyamho, along with an elite Anti-Kidnapping team, mobilised quickly to track down the perpetrators. They were joined by local Vigilantes and Hunters, forming a formidable force dedicated to bringing the criminals to justice.
Under mounting pressure, the kidnappers were forced to abandon their captives in a desperate bid to escape, but not before shooting one of the women, Esther Friday, 32, in the foot. Fortunately, despite her injuries, she is now receiving treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. Her companion, Joy Iregbeyen, 23, was also rescued unharmed, thanks to the swift action of the police and local forces.
In a statement released to Uptown Press Nigeria on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the operation was hailed as a testament to the determination and resilience of the officers involved. “The success of this operation demonstrates the commitment of the Edo State Police to tackle criminality head-on,” he said.
Edo State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has pledged to continue strengthening security measures across the State. With criminals now facing an iron-clad resolve from the authorities, the message is clear: crime will not go unchecked in Edo State.
